Do not praise yourself

Proverbs 27:2 (NIV) “Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider and not your own lips.” We all know someone who will tell you how great they are at everything that they do. Then you see their work or you go do an activity with them and they are not even close to as good at it as they had told us. Talking yourself up can cause a lot of trouble. If you tell someone you are excellent at something and they hire you for the job, and you turn out to be below average, it will probably anger them, and you could easily get fired. There have been things in my life that have humbled me quite a bit. Thinking I was the best in the #2 position in rugby, then playing against regional all-stars and being tested and bested. Thinking that I would get jobs and telling people about them, then not getting them. It is embarrassing when you talk yourself up and do not live up to the hype. Old but Sturdy

 “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” I know a lot of people that roll their eyes and scoff at studying the Old Testament. If you read this verse without knowing where in the Bible it came from you may think that Paul had written it and you would surely think that it was about Jesus. Instead you will find this passage in Isaiah 53:5 (NIV) Reading the Old Testament strengthens and reaffirms my faith. I learn from their experiences, how they are rewarded for acts of faith, how they are punished for their lack of faith and idolatry. I get to see the characteristics of God, and experience them in third person.  Without reading the Old Testament I would be much more likely to doubt Christ. I however am fortunate enough to read and see how Christ has fulfilled the prophesies. Especially here in Isaiah and know undoubtedly that it was Christ who was ...
