Who is your master?

Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV)
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Matthew 6:24 (NIV)
"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."

Do you spend your time obsessing about gaining wealth or fame? Do you dream about big homes, fancy cars, jewelry, possessions, being wealthy or famous? What for, what is the point? All glory belongs to God, taking it here on earth is your reward. Giving the glory to God stores up your reward in heaven for an eternity. We store up wealth, buy fancy belongings for what 60 years of enjoyment. I tell you surely that 60 years is nothing in the face of eternity.

I have been posed with the question as of late, "what is the meaning of life here on earth?" Really, you read in Ecclesiastes that everything is vanity except for fearing God and keeping his commandments. Every deed will be judged by God even those done in secret. Solomon wrote this, the richest man in history and the wisest man to ever live wrote that everything else is vanity, wealth, fame, knowledge, etc..

So who/what do you serve? Do you work hard to build up your treasure here on earth? Do you work hard to gain recognition? I tell you surely that what we should be doing is working to abide in God's will. Doing good deeds and not so that we may be glorified but that God may be glorified. We should be kind and polite to others. Help others and not expect anything in return. Our goal as Christians should be for others to know the love of Christ through our actions. Our purpose on earth is to be obedient to God's commandments, abide in his will, and share the good news of Jesus Christ with others. That is the only true purpose of our lives on earth. Our actions will be judged when we die and our reward will be given unto us accordingly.

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

Challenge: Evaluate what purpose you have been working for. Trust God to provide for your needs and turn your focus to abiding in his will, and doing the good deeds he has set before us.
