What is faith?
Hebrews 11:1-2 (NIV)
"Now Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for."
We are given the answer of what faith is here in Hebrews. As you read on in the 11th chapter it gives examples of Old Testament characters and what faith looks like. Abraham picked up and left for a place that he had never laid eyes upon in faith of God's promise. Noah had faith that it was going to flood though there had never been such a rain before. There are many great examples of faith in the bible.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For is is by grace you have been saved, through FAITH, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God"
The faith we are to have is that Jesus is the son of God, born of a virgin, who was perfect - without sin, died on the cross for our sins, and was raised on the third day. We were not there to see the miracles, or see him resurrected, we did not see and do not see heaven but we have to believe. We have to believe and be confident in what Jesus has done for us and accept the gift of salvation.
I like to think of it as this, when a child is young they will believe what their parents tell them. They believe in Santa, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and our explanations of things. They never see these things, but they believe. We are God's children, and the Bible - his word, gives us the historical account and we are to believe in his word, his promises.
Challenge: Have faith in God, establish in yourself a confidence of your salvation. Thank God for your salvation, read the Bible and build a reward that you cannot see, your reward in heaven.
“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 (NIV)
