Transparent Life

Proverbs 5:21 (NIV)  "For your ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all your paths." The most tempting sins are those that no one sees or that is easily hidden. We think that no one knows, but our lives are transparent to the Lord. The Lord sees what you do when you are alone. He know the vile thoughts that you think to yourself. He can see all, and examines every thing that you decide to do. I know these temptations all too well. He sees when you eat a whole pizza by yourself, lust after that actor or model, he sees what you decide to watch and what music you decide to listen to. There is nothing that we do that the Lord does not know about. We all may know someone who likes everything to seem perfect in public and want their reputation to be pristine. Yet when they are out of the view of public are hateful and mean. The reputation that they have with the Lord is not the same as that of what they have in this world. There are sayings, "What happens i...

God does not tempt.

James 1:13-14 "When tempted, no one should say' "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed." I am guilty of asking God, "why can't it be easy?" Why does he allow for me to be tempted. I know and as we see here that God is not the source of temptation. It is our own desires that lead us to sin. We are selfish and want to please ourselves and do not consider our actions or the consequences when we indulge in our sinful desires. Proverbs 19:2-3 says, "Desire without knowledge is not good - how much more will hasty feet miss the way! A person's own folly leads to their ruin, yet their heart rages against the Lord." We know that the Lord is the source of knowledge. So we should consult the Lord before our every action. Going about hastily without the Lord is bound for failure and ruin, which is the fault o...

God's philosophy

Colossians 2:8 (NIV) “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ.” Conventional wisdom is a generally accepted theory or belief. It typically has no research or evidence backing it up, it is hollow, but it is still accepted as truth. Today I talk with many people who attend church that accept things that are considered conventional wisdom. I hear people say, “We should love them for them. It is not my place to correct them.” But, this is not what Jesus teaches in Matthew 18. I also hear, “what goes around comes around.” Which is not Christ like of us to say, we are to be loving and compassionate towards others, and this saying is both vengeful and spiteful. Philosophy is literally defined as the love of wisdom. We know that God is the source of all wisdom, so philosophy should be the love of God. However philosophy is the study of why ...

Understanding

Proverbs 2:1-5 (NIV) "My son, if you accept my words and store my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding- indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God." Many people who search for hidden treasures spend their whole life dedicated to that sole purpose, and many still fail to find what they are searching for. Those who are truly committed, typically think about it all of the time. It consumes their thoughts, and they center their lives around the treasure they are searching for. We have a treasure to chase far greater than that of what they seek. In chapter one of proverbs Solomon states, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge." There is a different in just doing something and understanding why we do it. We are called to appl...
