Something worth sharing

Luke 4 :42-44 (NIV) "At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them. But he said, "I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent." And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea. A lot of times I can relate to the people of Capernaum. They sought after him and found him yet do not want to share Jesus with others. The person in the grocery store, or the gas station attendant and so on. I just keep my mouth shut and do not share the power and glory of Christ Jesus. I have experienced his saving grace and love, yet a lot of times I am not thinking of the bigger picture and sharing so that others can have the experience that I have had. Neither were they thinking of the big picture. They had witnessed his miracles and experienced his healing power, yet were not thinking about sharing that same b...

Nutrients for the Spirit

Luke 4:3-4 (NIV) "The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to be bread." Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone.'" We typically eat every day, multiple times a day. If we go without eating, we get hungry. If we go without eating on a continual basis it can cause organ damage, and death. Starvation has been used as a means of torture and even execution. So why then would we neglect to feed our spirit? Neglecting to read the word of God is damaging to our spirit. To finish Jesus' quote, "Man does not live on bread alone but on every work that comes from the mouth of the Lord" Deuteronomy 8:3 We should be feeding ourselves multiple times daily with the word of God. We are just children to God and children need proper nutrients to grow. The word of God is nutritious for our spirit, and essential to our spiritual growth. We do not starve our flesh so we should not starve our spirits. So...

Laziness leads to poverty

Proverbs 10:4 (NIV) "Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth." In today's society the sense of entitlement is becoming prevalent. People want to do the least amount of work and be paid as if they were doing the most. I myself sometimes have to take a step back and examine my work habits. But, I want to look at this is two different senses and its' application.  In this world the people who are workaholics and are very career oriented normally accumulate wealth throughout their lifetime. And those who choose to be on well fare instead of working hard typically stay in more of a state of poverty. In the United States, no matter what family you are born into, you do not know the poverty of third world countries. Not to say that times do not get "tough," but there are plenty avenues of help and opportunity. I have witnessed people go from homeless to living comfortably. And I have witnessed someone who was born with money end up living ...

Actions to Authority

Titus 3:1-2 (NIV) "Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always be gentle toward everyone." There has been a lot of big issues in the past few years. Republicans calling Democrats socialists for wanting universal healthcare. Riots over perceived injustices. Destruction of public and private property. School shootings, natural disasters, and all kinds of scandals in the news. People attacking our president and elected officials. Teachers deciding to not go to work over insurance costs and wanting pay raises. A lot of selfish and destructive actions. People in the church partaking and rationalizing.  In the United States we are fortunate enough to elect our leaders. At the time this was written the people in most circumstances did not have that luxury. Many people around the world today still do not. But, here we are told to be subject to our rul...
