Nutrients for the Spirit

Luke 4:3-4 (NIV)
"The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to be bread." Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone.'"

We typically eat every day, multiple times a day. If we go without eating, we get hungry. If we go without eating on a continual basis it can cause organ damage, and death. Starvation has been used as a means of torture and even execution. So why then would we neglect to feed our spirit? Neglecting to read the word of God is damaging to our spirit. To finish Jesus' quote, "Man does not live on bread alone but on every work that comes from the mouth of the Lord" Deuteronomy 8:3

We should be feeding ourselves multiple times daily with the word of God. We are just children to God and children need proper nutrients to grow. The word of God is nutritious for our spirit, and essential to our spiritual growth. We do not starve our flesh so we should not starve our spirits. Sometimes we become consumed with what is going on in this world and in our lives at the moment. But, usually you do not forget to eat. So when things are "crazy" and "hectic" in life we still should take the time to read the Bible.

Challenge: Examine your habits, are you feeding your spirit? Take the time and prioritize reading the bible as you would eating.

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 (NIV)
