Sinking in Debt?

Romans 3:19-24
“Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law we become conscious of our sin. But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

Our economy is driven by debt. Countries borrow from other countries. People borrow from other people. Through life you may accumulate debt by going to school, buying a vehicle, buying a house, furnishings, etc. There are people who accumulate so much debt, that they will never be able to repay it in their lifetime. Up until the mid-19th century there were debtors’ prisons, where you would be locked up and forced to work off your debt. Sometimes that meant the rest of your life. Now imagine, someone stepping in and tells you that they are going to pay off all of your debts for free as long as you accept the offer.

When it comes to sin debt, we are all drowning in it. We all are burdened with a sin debt that we can never repay from the time of birth. The punishment for our sin debt is death and an eternity of suffering in Hell. However, we have someone who intercedes before God on our behalf. All we have to do is accept the free gift of salvation by believing and proclaiming that Jesus is the Son of God. From that moment forward we are free from our debt of sin. Jesus has paid it all, he is our blameless sacrifice and atonement for sins.

Challenge: Accept the fact that there is only one way to heaven. If you have not accepted Christ as your Lord and savior, let Christ pay your sin debt. All you have to do is believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and accept him as your Lord and Savior.

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 (NIV)
