What is your blue print?

Matthew 7:24-26 (NIV) "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house. and it fell with a great crash." The first step in this is to hear the word. But more importantly is our actions after we hear. To look at it in a different way, the bible is like the blue print to a building. It guides you, instructs you how to build the structure at hand. We have to have that in order to know what to do, and to guide us in how to correctly accomplish things. Just as a builder needs to turn to the blue print to tell them what to do, we need to tur...

Omnipresent

Hebrews 4:13 (NIV) "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." This past weekend I had the opportunity to do something that we do not do very often. I opened up with a few others and talked about the struggles of "hidden" or "secret" sins. It is easy to see other people's sins; homosexuality, drunkenness, drug addiction, gluttony, murder, etc. These are some sins that are easily visible and people even look down upon those who are committing these sins. The three of us who were enjoying the conversation, all came from different backgrounds and all have different testimonies. One opened  up about how he looked at someone who is close to him and did not understand why he kept relapsing into drugs. Another one of us recalled a similar instance where someone was that way with alcohol. An additional person was mentioned who could not refrain from p...

Who is your master?

Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV) "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:24 (NIV) "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." Do you spend your time obsessing about gaining wealth or fame? Do you dream about big homes, fancy cars, jewelry, possessions, being wealthy or famous? What for, what is the point? All glory belongs to God, taking it here on earth is your reward. Giving the glory to God stores up your reward in heaven for an eternity. We store up wealth, buy fancy belongings for what 60 years of enjoyment. I tell you surely that 60 years is nothing in...

How do you answer temptation?

Matthew 4:3-4 (NIV) "The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." Jesus answered, "It is written that man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." (Deuteronomy 8:3) How do you react when you know you are being tempted? Do you pray, do you give in, do you do? Ever think that it is impossible to not give in to the temptation? What happens when you fail and give in to the temptation to sin? Do you get mad with yourself after you sin? I know that the devil knows our weaknesses and we will be tempted in those areas. God allows us to be tempted and God knows our weaknesses as well. In 1 Corinthians 10:13 Paul writes, "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." There is a...
